Heron-Peacock Supported Living provides transitional and permanent housing for low and very low income men and women who have chronic mental illness. Heron-Peacock Supported Living also provides individualized care coordination and supportive services in a competent and respectful manner.
The Heron in Marathon was opened in 1988 in response to the needs of local families who were unable to manage the mental illness of a loved one. In 1999, the program was expanded with the development of the Peacock Apartments in Key West. Heron-Peacock Supported Living programs now serve a total of 44 people who have mental illness, some of whom were formally homeless. Residents also include the sons and daughters, and husbands and wives of local families.
Our staff include paid employees, supplemented by volunteers from all over the world. These caring and dedicated interns come to the United States for about a year, usually after completing higher education programs or productive careers, to experience life and work in the United States. The volunteers reside in the same facilities as our residents, providing 24 hour supervision and assistance.
